Nakhon Sawan –
An army pilot trainer and his student from the Royal Thai Air Force were killed in a helicopter training accident in Nakhon Sawan this morning, December 14th.
Royal Thai Army Deputy Spokesperson Sirichan Ngathong revealed to the Associated Press that the accident occurred around 9:30 A.M. when both pilots were on group flight training heading from Lop Buri to Nakhon Sawan.
However, the helicopter had reportedly lost control while preparing to land at the Kasetsart Airport of the Mueng Nakhon Sawan district and crashed to the ground near Chiraprawat army camp.
Two fatalities were Lieutenant Colonel Panpong Banchong who was a flight instructor at the Royal Thai Army Aviation School and Corporal Chanakorn Piamcharoen who was a student of the Royal Thai Air Force Academy, class 66.
The Royal Thai Army has expressed its deepest condolences for the loss of the personnel. A team from the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Committee is now investigating the cause of the fatal accident. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased will be transferred for an autopsy before being delivered to their families for religious ceremonies.
