The Thai Ministry of Public Health urged the public to refrain from drinking alcohol, visiting poorly ventilated areas, and doing other risky activities to help reduce the spread of the Covid-19 Omicron variant.
Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Public Health, stated late this week that the number of cases of Covid-19 in Thailand has increased significantly after the New Year holidays as predicted. Although the Omicron variant appeared to be less severe than the Delta variant according to Opas, people with prior health conditions were considered as being in an at-risk group.
Following the Public Health Ministry’s announcement of level 4 of a Covid-19 national alert Thursday morning, the Ministry, therefore, would like to ask the public for cooperation under four conditions as follows:
1. Refrain from eating and drinking in a restaurant and/or going to risky places with poor ventilation and crowded
2. Refrain from large gatherings.
3. Reduce traveling across provinces if not necessary and refrain from using all public transport as much as possible. If not, passengers are required to wear face masks and conduct ATK tests when taking long trips.
4. Refrain from traveling abroad due to the high outbreak in many foreign countries. Quarantine is required for entry to Thailand. Everyone is encouraged to protect themselves with VUCA measures (V – Vaccine, U – Universal Prevention, C – COVID Free Setting, A – ATK test)
TPN notes these are “requests” and not orders.
