Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha ordered related ministries yesterday to urgently discuss with private companies regarding price control on necessities.
Government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana stated yesterday, January 13th, that the Prime Minister expressed his concerns over the increasing price of consumer goods, especially in the fresh food category like pork, and therefore ordered the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Energy to closely monitor and discuss with manufacturers to consider controlling their product prices to ease the burden of customers.
The spokesperson said: “Initially, the Ministry of Commerce had discussions with the Thai President of Foods Public Company Limited, a prominent instant noodles company of “Mama”, and asked for their cooperation not to increase the price of the instant noodles as it was one of the popular consumable products in the domestic market.”
“Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy extended the price freeze of LPG cooking gas at 318 baht per tank of 15 kilograms for another 2 months, from January 31st to March 31st. They also asked for cooperation from PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) to consider providing discounts on LPG gas prices for local entrepreneurs and maintain the retail price of NGV gas for professional drivers, including taxi drivers in Bangkok and its vicinity.”
