Chonburi authorities together with Thai leading space research organization GISTDA and the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) are planning to launch the ‘Covid-19 iMap Platform’ system as a data collecting source of Covid-19 to effectively help manage the pandemic situation.
Kandasri Limpakom, Deputy Executive Director of GISTDA, revealed during the opening of the situation management system project that the system would use geoinformatics to help analyze areas that are at risk of the spread of the coronavirus for systematic and effective control of the area.
The project was initially planned for five pilot tourist provinces such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Tak, Chonburi, and Phuket.
Kandasri stated: “Chonburi is a province bustling with tourism and industry. The province also has a large number of latent workers and is one of three provinces in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) that are important in terms of commerce and industry. The ‘Covid-19 iMap Platform’ is suitable for the area, especially during the tourism recovery after the Covid-19 outbreak.”
The ‘Covid-19 iMap Platform’ contained geo-informatics data collected from nine ministries and 17 related agencies, giving information of location, public health status, economy, and the number of population for monitoring, surveillance, analysis, planning, and support for decision-making under the Thai authorities’ management to potentially and systematically manage the situation in the future in a timely manner.
The data would be expanded to cover the details at the national level and is currently under the process of analyzing data and displaying them in the form of digital maps on the system from each region.
The research team also developed the ‘COVID-19 Safety Index’ using an analytical process and factors in many dimensions, including the infection situation, the potential/sufficiency of the public health system, the population density and risk areas, and allocation of vaccines, for effective management as well as to integrate data from all sectors, synthesize, and verify the collective data before publishing to the public sector through the same system.
