Thailand discovered a total of 8,077 daily Covid-19 infections with 9 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, January 16th.
The fatalities were 5 men and 4 women. All of them were Thai nationals. The age range was between 62 and 96 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (5), diabetes (5), hyperlipidemia (4), obesity (1), and kidney disease (1).
Of the new cases, 7,724 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 60 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 11 were from prisons, and the remaining 282 were imported cases.
A number of 50,549 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 509 patients are in critical condition including 106 on ventilators. This is roughly 1.00 percent of cases that are critical while 20.8 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 789 followed by Samut Prakan with 705, Chonburi with 692, Phuket with 400, Nonthaburi with 387, and Pathum Thani with 287.
A total number of 453,273 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 43,581 people had received their first shots, 105,113 people had received their second shots, and 304,579 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 71.9% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 66.0% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 13.9% have had a third booster shot.
As of today, 4,887 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,324,485 cases with 2,222,011 recoveries and a total of 21,925 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
