RECAP: Thailand reports 3,091 daily Covid-19 infections with 12 additional deaths today, all with underlying health conditions

Thailand discovered a total of 3,091 daily Covid-19 infections with 12 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, January 4th.

The fatalities were 6 men and 6 women. All of them were Thai nationals. The age range was between 61 and 98 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (7), diabetes (2), hyperlipidemia (2), obesity (1), and kidney disease (5). One of the fatalities was a bedridden patient, all were elderly (defined by the CCSA as over 60).

Of the new cases, 2,963 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 2 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 2 were from prisons, and the remaining 124 were imported cases.

A number of 33,505 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 555 patients are in critical condition including 151 on ventilators. This is roughly 1.65 percent of cases that are critical while 27.2 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Chonburi with 499, followed by Bangkok with 376, Ubon Ratchatani with 328, Phuket with 149, Samut Prakan with 120, and Chiang Mai with 117.

A total number of 32,712 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 5,022 people had received their first shots, 11,226 people had received their second shots, and 16,464 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 71.2% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 64.1% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 9.8% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 2,688 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,235,576 cases with 2,180,321 recoveries and a total of 21,750 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
