The Thai Ministry of Labor is preparing to distribute at least a first lot of 5,000 baht compensation for qualified Thai nightlife and entertainment venue workers registered with the Social Security Office (SSO) on December 29th.
Boonsong Thapchaiyut, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office from the Ministry of Labor, stated after a meeting with the Music Association of Thailand and the Professional Entertainment Network Confederation of Thailand that the Social Security Office has launched a financial remedy project for entertainment business workers and self-employed people working in entertainment places who are affected by the Thai government’s ongoing closure measures at the rate of 5,000 baht per person.
In order to receive the government payout, workers must be either:
- A Thai insured person under Section 33 who is working in entertainment venues, pubs, bars, karaoke lounges.
- A Thai insured person under Section 39 or 40 who is certified by the Musician Association of Thailand or the Professional Entertainment Network Confederation of Thailand. Their names must be registered with the Ministry of Interior or the Department of Business Development by January 14th, 2022.
“Those who are not registered with the Social Security Office can do so as soon as possible in order to receive the payout by mid-January. The SSO will transfer funds via a PromptPay account, starting the first compensation on December 29th,” the Secretary-General stated.
The Ministry estimated that about 130,000 insured workers would benefit from the project, distributing more than 600 million baht.
