Pattaya –
Pattaya police raided a pub this morning (January 22nd) for allegedly breaking Covid-19 rules. Eight Chinese and Thai nationals also reportedly tested positive for illegal drugs.
The raid at 5:00 A.M. was led by the Pattaya City Police Chief Colonel Kunlachart Kunlachai. The venue, identified by Pattaya Police as ‘Bone Pub’, is located on Petch Trakun Road in Nongprue.
The raid followed Pattaya police receiving a phone tip-off from an anonymous concerned citizen claiming they were afraid of the potential spread of Covid-19 and that the venue was allegedly opened. Police arrived at the pub which at first glance appeared to be shut and fully locked.
However, Pattaya officers remained suspicious based on vehicles in the vicinity and noise from within and asked an individual who was identified as a “caretaker/guard” to unlock the building and give them access which after some debate the request was granted.
Inside the venue, officers reportedly found many people drinking alcohol and singing without masks or social distancing, violating current Covid19 rules in Chonburi. Additionally, the current closing time for “restaurants” in Pattaya, which includes converted entertainment venues, is 9:00 PM. Legally, bars, pubs, nightclubs, and entertainment venues have been closed since April of 2021 although have been allowed to temporarily open as restaurants.
The pub manager, several Chinese nationals, and Thai staffers were taken to the Pattaya City Police Station. Eight of them were tested positive with illegal drugs, although the exact drug was not identified by Pattaya police. They were facing further legal action and still detained as of press time, although not named.
