AND… the Sandbox program has also been shelved EXCEPT FOR PHUKET. Latest info here…
Registration is officially closing today for travellers wishing to enter Thailand under the Test & Go quarantine exemption programme. BUT if you have already registered and been approved you CAN come to Thailand under that documentation.
In an urgent meeting this afternoon, chaired by PM Prayut Chan-o-cha, the CCSA decided to stop accepting new tourists under the Thailand Pass entry schemes starting as of now. Now this has been confirmed by messages on Thailand Pass apps and people trying to access the app, getting the same message. The Thai government says they will review the situation after the Christmas and new year holidays on January 4.
Of course, all this is being fuelled by the situation with the new Covid-19 variant, Omicron. Currently Thailand has seen fewer than 70 confirmed cases of Omicron but has been exacerbated by a local transmission and the possible confirmation of others.
Importantly, Travellers registered to enter Thailand under the Test & Go will STILL BE ABLE TO ENTER Thailand under the program, BUT no more travellers will be able to register, according to Thai media. There will be an official press conference will more information… we’re waiting for that at the moment and will get all the latest details out on thethaiger.com ASAP.
The CCSA say the decision is based on the first local transmission of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 which was reported yesterday. So far, there have been more than 60 confirmed Omicron cases in Thailand.
The Test & Go program was launched on November 1, allowing fully vaccinated travellers, from 63 “low risk” countries, to enter Thailand without undergoing a lengthy quarantine. Test & Go travellers have been required to book a night at an approved SHA+ hotel to stay in isolation while they wait for the results from an RT-PCR Covid-19 test.
New measures apply for all applicants on Thailand Pass, as follows:
1️⃣ Applicants who have received their Thailand Pass QR Code can enter Thailand under the scheme they have registered.
2️⃣ Applicants who have registered, but have not received their QR Code must wait for their Thailand Pass to be considered / approved. Once approved, they can enter Thailand under the scheme they have registered.
3️⃣ New applicants will not be able to register for Test and Go and Sandbox measures (except Phuket Sandbox). Thailand Pass will only accept new applicants seeking to enter Thailand under Alternative Quarantine (AQ) or Phuket Sandbox only.
4️⃣ Passengers who have arrived in Thailand or will arrive in Thailand under Test and Go and Sandbox Programme must undergo their 2nd COVID-19 test using the RT-PCR technique (not ATK self-test) at government-designated facilities (no additional cost).
