Songkhla –
Nearly 30 alleged partygoers were arrested at a “VIP” karaoke lounge in Hat Yai, Songkhla in the early hours of this morning, January 9th, after allegedly partying, drinking, and taking illegal drugs, violating the preventive order of the Provincial Communicable Disease Committee.
Officials from the Hat Yai Police Station arrived at a modified restaurant “Walk-in Bar, Folk Song and Dance” located in the Hat Yai district at around 1:30 A.M. after being alerted of the allegedly illegal gathering and partying at the venue from nearby residents complaining about the noise and stating that they could not sleep.
A total of 29 teenagers aged between 16 and 20 years, including 14 men and 15 women, were found dancing and partying in a karaoke room with narcotic drugs like Ketamine, Ecstasy, and Zolam substances scattered all over the floor. Some of them were reportedly found being dumped in the restroom.
According to lounge owner Ranida Kongphan, the group booked a karaoke room for a birthday party, telling her that there would be only 5-6 people. She claimed that she did not know about the overcrowding gathering and use of illegal drugs until the police arrived.
Initially, all of them were detained at the Hat Yai Police Station and were charged for violating the Emergency Decree and possessing Category 2 of the narcotic substances for illegal activities. Due to strict Covid-19 rules in the province, the drugs aside, parties and gatherings are still against Covid-19 measures in the province.
