At least one man was injured as explosions occurred at 13 locations in Muang district of Thailand’s southern province of Yala last night (Friday).

Police said that several of the explosions were stun grenades (flash-bangs) and they are believed to have been detonated by insurgents to cause public panic and undermine the economy of the province.

Explosions were reported at Heng Jia temple, the Home Car Care store, the Ratpiti convenience store, an animal clinic, a police apartment and at other convenience stores.

In neighbouring Pattani province, police, troops and defence volunteers have been told to brace for retaliatory attacks by insurgents after two of them were killed in Ra-ngae district of Narathiwat province on Friday.

Security units manning road checkpoints were ordered to increase searches of suspect vehicles and people entering towns and commercial areas.

Members of the public were also asked to watch out for strangers or suspect objects, especially during the Chinese New Year festival when many people are expected to travel.
