PHUKET: Foreign residents and tourists in Phuket have been invitated to participate in the blood donation event on August 8 in Phuket Town. This event aims to replenish the much-needed reserves at the Phuket Blood Bank at Vachira Phuket Hospital.
All blood groups are currently in high demand at Vachira Phuket Hospital and the Phuket Regional Blood Center (Phuket RBC), which operates under the Phuket Red Cross.
“Vachira Phuket Hospital and the Blood Bank cordially invite all foreigners to take part in our blood donation drive to support people on 8/8/66 (Aug 8, 2023) at Limelight Phuket. We need blood properly prepared in advance for emergency use,” organisers of the event said in a message to The Phuket News.
“Please, come. Blood is needed even in low season. Please, help our doctors to save human lives. We sincerely thank you in advance,” Vachira Phuket Hospital added.

The 8/8/66 event, deemed as ’Phuket Blood Donation Drive, 3rd” is set to take place from 10am to 4pm at Limelight Avenue on Dibuk Rd in Phuket Town. The event will be attended by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew and his wife, Wandee Woonciew, President of the Phuket Red Cross.
To enhance awareness, a presentation on the significance of Phuket’s ongoing blood donation campaign will be given by Dr Weerasak Lorthongkham, the Director of Vachira Phuket Hospital. Participants, both foreign and Thai nationals, will receive a commemorative t-shirt as a token of gratitude for their benevolent act.
As explained to The Phuket News, any individual in good health can donate blood without any threats to themselves. The procedure is safe and painless. The basic requirements are:
- A donor should be between 17 and 70 years old.
- The individual should be in good health and overall physical well-being. Adequate rest before donation is recommended.
- A regular meal prior to donation is recommended.
- Kindly refrain from participating if you are unwell.
- In the event of recent ’risky’ sexual behavior, participation should be deferred.
Blood donations are welcomed daily, including weekends and public holidays, at both the Blood Bank situated on the 4th floor of Vachira Phuket Hospital and at the Phuket RBC in Phuket Town. For further details, please visit this link.
In honor of Mother’s Day, two special blood donation events will be organised at Limelight Avenue and Phuket RBC on Saturday (July 12). Detailed information regarding these events is yet to be disclosed.
