Chonburi –
The Chonburi governor has stated that a total lockdown and widespread business closures are not on the agenda for the area despite rising Covid19 cases after fake news about impending lockdowns has gone viral on social media.
Governor Phakharathorn Teanchai stated to TPN media, “There are many more confirmed Covid -19 cases, mostly the Omicron variant based on random testing so far in Chonburi. Recent cases are mild or asymptomatic with very few serious cases and the death rate is very low.”
“However we are ready to handle the situation if hospitals are unable to receive many patients. We have prepared community isolation centers and “hospitels” (quarantine hotels) with doctors and medical staffers.”
“We have not ordered any entire business sector closures or total lockdowns as we don’t want to cause any economic damage. However, we might have to consider selective measurements and restrictions without resorting to total lockdowns to discourage large gatherings and will be exploring options.” The Governor concluded.
