On July 4th, 2024, Supachai Jaisamut, the advisor to Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, addressed the seminar “Shaping the Future of Cannabis in Thailand.”

He reiterated that the Bhumjaithai Party has consistently advocated for cannabis to benefit the public, particularly in the medical, health, and economic aspects. He reaffirmed the party’s steadfast support for regulating THC content to no more than 0.2% and cautioned against reclassification as an illegal drug without strong, evidence-based reasons.

Supachai criticized recent proposals to reclassify cannabis as an illegal substance, arguing against actions that could undermine its potential societal benefits. He called for a balanced approach that prioritizes evidence-based policymaking over political expediency.

He stressed the importance of viewing cannabis as a strategic asset capable of driving both the individual well-being of millions and economic growth from cannabis-related initiatives.

In conclusion, Supachai reaffirmed his dedication to advancing policies that leverage cannabis responsibly for the benefit of Thai citizens. He urged stakeholders to focus on policies that enhance accessibility and ensure regulatory frameworks support its safe and beneficial use for public health, industry, and the economy.

“It’s time to put the people at the center and let cannabis drive positive change,” Supachai urged.
